19th Asian Games

The 19th Asian Games came to an end on Sunday, October 8th. A Grand closing ceremony took place at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in China. India created history by winning over 100 medals for the first time, with a total of 107 medals, including 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze.

 

India excelled in multiple sports at the Asian Games. They secured the most medals in Archery, Cricket, Kabbadi, and Hockey. The Indian Cricket teams, both male and female, achieved first place in their debut appearance, while the Indian Kabaddi team reclaimed their top spot. The Indian men’s Hockey team defeated the previous Asiad champion, Japan, in the finals, and the women’s team won the silver medal.

 

In athletics, Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Kumar Jena secured the first and second positions in the Javelin throw event, bringing honour to India. On the squash courts, Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Sandhu made history by winning the first-ever mixed doubles gold in Asian Games history. Additionally, India won its first equestrian gold in 41 years.

 

Indian shooters won 22 medals, including seven gold medals. Among the 34 Indian athletes who won multiple medals, shooters Aishwary Pratap Singh and Esha Singh topped the list with four medals each.  

 

With India’s historic wins and amazing performances by the athletes, the 19th Asian Games was a successful event for our nation. It has inspired the youth of India to make up sports and make our nation proud in the next Asian Game that will be hosted by Japan in 2026.
