19th Asian Games

The 19th Asian Games came to an end on Sunday, October 8th, with a grand closing ceremony at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in China. India reached a milestone of 100 plus medals at the ongoing Asian Games 2023. This is the first time in history that India has achieved this remarkable feat. With 107 medals, India’s medal tally comprised 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze. 

 

India managed to secure the most number of medals in four categories-  Archery, Cricket, Kabbadi and Hockey. The Indian Cricket teams- both male and female secured the first position on their debut appearance, while the Indian Kabaddi team reclaimed their throne. The Indian men’s Hockey team defeated the previous Asiad champion, Japan in the finals while the women’s team won the silver medal.   

 

Athletes, Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Kumar Jena secured the first and second positions in the Javelin throw event, making India proud once again. At the squash courts, Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Sandhu won the first-ever mixed doubles gold on offer in Asian Games history. The nation also won its first equestrian gold in 41 years.

With India’s historic wins and spectacular performances, the 19th Asian Games saw the best of the Indian Athletes. It has inspired millions of Indian youths to take up sports and make India even more successful in the upcoming Asian Games that are to be held in Japan in 2026.
