2023 Ashes Series

2023 Ashes Series

The Ashes is a test cricket tournament played between England and Australia at least once every two years. During the initial years of the establishment of the Ashes Series, the number of test series played was anywhere from 1 to 7, but since 1998, 5 test matches have been played consistently. The Ashes Series usually takes place between June and July.

The Ashes Series has an interesting history. It dates back to August 29, 1882, when Australia won the first test match against England in their land, at The Oval. After this loss, England was criticised by a British newspaper which said that England’s cricket had died and “the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia.” In response to this, the then-caption of the English cricket team, Ivo Bligh, promised to “regain those ashes”. Following the release of this statement, the English media started referring to the matches as a pursuit of regaining the ashes. This is how the test cricket tournament got its name.

The 2023 Ashes Series will be played in 5 stadiums, which are The Oval, Old Trafford, Headingley, Lord’s and Edgbaston. The first test match started on June 16 and will end on June 20. The second test match is scheduled for June 28 to July 2. From July 6 to 10 the third test match will be played. The fourth test match is scheduled for July 19 to 23. The 2023 Ashes Series will come to an end with the fourth test series, which will be played between July 27 to 31.
