2023 Indonesia Open

The Indonesia Open is a badminton tournament which is organised every year by the Badminton Association of Indonesia. The tournament was established in 1982. It is sometimes also called the Kapal Api Group Indonesia Open 2023 and usually takes place between June and July. 

The 2023 Indonesia Open Super 1000 Badminton tournament was held from June 13 to 18 at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno Sports Palace in Jakarta, which is the capital city of Indonesia. This was the 41st edition of the tournament. There were 5 traditional categories in the tournament, including Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Mixed Doubles, Men’s Doubles and Women’s Doubles. 

During the finals of the 2023 Indonesia Open, the two Indian players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, made history by winning the Men’s Doubles category. They played against the Malaysian champions Soh Wooi Yik and Aaron Chia and defeated them to win the Super 1000 badminton tournament. They scored a 21-17, 21-18 win against their opponents. This was the first time an Indian pair had won this title. To make the victory grander, the Indian duo had lost to the same Malaysian players with a score of 0-8 in a previous match.
