2023 ISSF World Shooting Championships

The World Shooting Championships started in 1897, a decade before the establishment of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). The ISSF was founded in 1907. It is responsible for managing the Olympic shooting events. The ISSF World Shooting Championships are held once every four years. 

The 2023 ISSF World Shooting Championships started on August 14 and will end on September 1. The event is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan. A total of 1249 athletes from 101 nations participated in the championships. The last medals for the various events were handed out on August 24, 2023. The athletes who performed extraordinarily in this championship will be selected to participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics. 

India participated in the 2023 ISSF World Shooting Championships and won 6 gold and 8 bronze medals. India won gold in the following events:

  • 25m Standard Pistol 
  • 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team 
  • 10m Air Rifle Women’s Team
  • 25m Pistol Women’s Team 
  • 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men Team 
  • 50m Pistol Team 

In total, India won 14 medals, just behind China who won the highest number of medals (15 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze). The third place was secured by the United States with 8 medals (5 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze).
