31st World University Games

The World University Games is an international sporting event which is run by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). Initially, the event was called Universiade, which was the combination of two words: University and Olympiad. However, in recent times, the sporting event is called World University Games or World Student Games because only university athletes participate in the sporting event. The sporting event takes place after every two years in a different city. The World University Games is divided into Summer World University Games and Winter World University Games. 

The Summer World University Games includes 15 different sports and take place over 12 days. The 2021 Summer World University Games were to be held in Chengdu, China but was postponed to this year due to the pandemic. The Winter World University Games goes on for 11 days and includes 8 sports. The latest edition of the sport took place in January 2023 in the United States. 

The opening Summer World University Games will be held on July 28, 2023, at the Dong’an Lake Sports Park Stadium in Chengdu, China. This will be the 31st edition of the FISU World University Games. The event will end on August 28. More than 113 countries and over 9,500 athletes will be participating in the event.
