37th National Games Opening Ceremony

The 37th National Games was officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 26th October 2023 in Panaji, Goa. The opening ceremony took place in the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao. 

PM Narendra Modi was welcomed by the Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant. The athletes presented PM Modi with the “Infinity Flame” that represented the game. The Indian traditional sport Mallakhambh was performed in the cultural event. 

The National Games first took place 99 years ago in 1924. It is the first time that Goa is hosting the Games. The Games will take place from October 26 to November 9. Some new sports such as beach football, golf and roll ball etc will be introduced in the games this year. 

Athletes from different states of India will participate in the National Games to bring honour to their states. With 43 different sports categories, the 37th edition of the National Games is believed to be the largest ever in history.
