86 Years Ago Snow White Premiered for the First Time

On 21st December 1937, Walt Disney created history by launching the first feature-length animated movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. It premiered at the Carthay Circle Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Soon, it became a classic, and even after 86 years of release, this movie captivates the hearts of millions.

This movie is based on a German fairytale written by the Grimm Brothers. It tells the story of a young princess named Snow white who is exiled from her town by her evil stepmother, who plans on killing her. She comes across the seven dwarfs and forms a meaningful friendship with them. The movie ends with a ‘happily ever after’ as the young princess’ life is saved by the first Disney prince, Prince Florian.

The classic movie was released in colour. All the movements of the characters were drawn by various artists. Most parts of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ were based upon the dances and movements created by an actress named Marge Champion.

In 1939, Walt Disney was given an honorary Oscar for this masterpiece. A special Oscar statuette with seven other miniature statuettes was made to represent Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The film became a huge success. It was nominated for Oscars in the best music score category. To date, this movie remains a significant part of the history of Hollywood and every single movie industry, as it paved the way for animated movies.
