Astronauts Celebrate Christmas in Space

As the festivities of Christmas were celebrated around the globe, astronauts staying on the International Space Station(ISS) also took part in the celebrations away from Earth. The International Space Station (ISS) is the largest space station in the Earth’s orbit from where astronauts perform scientific studies and experiments.

Away from their real homes, they took part in the joy of Christmas by wearing Christmas hats and decorating the Space Station with stockings and Christmas trees. Astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli shared pictures of herself and her colleagues on the social media platform, Instagram. Due to zero gravity, they could be seen floating inside the space station.

Moghbeli shared the pictures with a caption describing her happiness in celebrating the festivities with her ‘space family’. In the picture, astronauts Jasmin Moghbeli and Loral O’Hara were present with Andreas Mogensen of the European Space Agency and Japan’s Satoshi Furukawa.

Currently, seven astronauts are on the space station for a six-month-long mission in orbit around Earth. The other three astronauts could not be seen in the posted pictures. The unique celebration on the ISS serves as a reminder of the shared human experience even in the vastness of outer space.
