The Australian Open is an annual tennis tournament held in Melbourne, Australia. It is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments that take place every year, the other three being- the France Open, US Open and Wimbledon. The 2024 Australian Open’s qualifying round started on 8th January, and the final match took place yesterday on 28th January. 

The final match for the Women’s single took place between Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka and Chinese player Qinwen Zheng on 27th January. Aryna Sabalenka defeated Zheng to secure the first position for the second time. In 2023, Sabalenka defeated E. Rybakina. As a result, she became the defending champion this year. 

The duo of Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna and Australian player Matthew Ebden secured the Men’s Double title. Rohan Bopaana created history by becoming the oldest Grand Slam winner at the age of 43. The duo of Tawainese tennis player Hsieh Su-Wei and Belgian player Elise Mertens won the Women’s Double title. Hsieh Su-Wei partnered with Polish tennis player Jan Zieliński to win the Mixed doubles title. 

The 2024 Australia Opens came to an end with the Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner winning the Men’s Single title on 28th January. Sinner defeated Russian tennis player Daniil Mendelev in the final round. It was Sinner’s first appearance in a major final, while for Mendelev, it was the third Australian Open final he unfortunately lost.
