Celebrating 50 Years of Project Tiger

On April 9, Project Tiger completed 50 years. To celebrate this huge success, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, Karnataka. He also launched the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA). This alliance aims to protect 7 big cats, including Snow  leopards, Jaguars, Cheetahs, Tigers, Lions, Leopards and Pumas. There are 97 countries that are a part of this alliance. 

As of 2022, there are about 3,167 tigers in India, which makes up 75% of the world’s tiger population.
