Celebrating 50 Years of Project Tiger

Project Tiger recently completed 50 years. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, arrived at Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, Karnataka, to celebrate this event. He also announced the launch of the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA). This alliance will focus on protecting 7 different breeds of big cats such as Tigers, Lions, Cheetahs, Leopards, Jaguars, Pumas and Snow leopards. 

In 2022, the number of tigers in India increased to 3, 167. As of now, 75% of the world’s tiger population lives in India.
