Celebrating 50 Years of Project Tiger

On Sunday, Project Tiger completed 50 years. To celebrate this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. He inaugurated a program celebrating this great feat of achievement at the Mysuru University in Mysuru, Karnataka.

The International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA) was also launched by him during this event, along with a commemorative coin. The aim of this alliance is to protect and conserve 7 big cats of the world. These include Snow leopards, Jaguars, Cheetahs, Tigers, Lions, Leopards and Pumas. 97 countries are a part of this alliance.

In the past four years alone, the population of tigers in India has risen by 200. As of 2022, there are about 3,167 tigers present in India, which makes up 75% of the world’s tiger population.
