Creator of Amul Girl Campaign Passes Away

We are all familiar with the iconic Amul Girl advertisement campaigns. It features a young, blue-haired girl wearing a white dress with red polka dots. Amul uses this mascot to advertise its products. It is also the longest-running ad campaign in the world.

The Amul Girl mascot was developed in 1967 by Sylvester daCunha. He recently passed away at the age of 80. Many political leaders, businessmen and advertising professionals have expressed their grief over Sylvester daCunha’s death on social media.

The Amul Girl mascot was originally created to compete with Amul’s Polson’s butter girl. The late Sylvester daCunha carried the idea forward. He wanted to come up with something that would attract the attention of every housewife in India. He also wanted the design to be simple as it would have to be handpainted at that time. This is how the Amul Girl that we know today was created.
