Cyclone Biparjoy

Cyclone Biparjoy

A cyclone is a storm with strong winds that is formed in water bodies such as seas and oceans. The strong winds from a cyclone often travel to surrounding lands and cause damage to human life and property. Recently, a cyclone has developed in the Arabian Sea. It has been named Biparjoy by Bangladesh, which means ‘disaster’.

This cyclone will affect parts of India and Pakistan. It will reach the lands near the Arabian sea on June 15. The cyclone is expected to have a maximum wind speed of 165 kilometers per hour which is close to the speed of a moving train.

The India Meteorological Department, which is responsible for making weather observations and forecasts, has declared that the cyclone Biparjoy is a very serious one. An orange alert has been issued for coastal parts of Gujarat which are closest to the sea. People living in those parts of Gujarat have been told to leave the area, or remain indoors when the cyclone hits the land. Parts of Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra will also be affected by heavy rainfall due to the cyclone Biparjoy.
