Cyclone Biparjoy

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a tropical storm has developed in the Arabian Sea, which has intensified into a cyclone. The cyclone has been named Biparjoy by Bangladesh, which means ‘calamity’ or ‘disaster’. Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to affect parts of India and Pakistan and will hit coastal regions on June 15. The cyclone is expected to have a maximum wind speed of 165 kilometers per hour. 

The India Meteorological Department has declared the cyclone to be a very severe one and issued an orange alert for coastal parts of Gujarat. Cyclone Biparjoy has been described as a Category 3-equivalent cyclone. People living in the coastal regions of Gujarat have been urged to evacuate or remain indoors when the cyclone hits the land. As a precautionary method, the national and state disaster response teams have been allocated to certain parts of Gujarat by the state government. Parts of Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra will be affected by heavy rainfall due to the cyclone Biparjoy.
