Delhi to Host G20 Summit

The 18th G20 summit will be held on September 9 and 10 in Delhi. Many prominent leaders from across the globe will participate in this summit. This summit will be the culmination of all previous summits held this year. At the end of the summit, a G20 Leaders’ Declaration will be adopted wherein every member nation’s duty towards the issues discussed in the G20 meetings will be mentioned.

The entire state has geared up to prepare for the summit. The important sites for the G20 summit are regularly being visited by various state leaders like the Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, P K Mishra the Principal Secretary of Narendra Modi and Delhi Major Shelly Oberoi. All measures are being taken to ensure that the sites are properly cleaned before the summit.

G20 stands for the Group of Twenty. It comprises 19 countries, namely Japan, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Mexico, France, China, the United States, Germany, Canada, Australia, India, the Republic of Korea, Turkey, Russia, Italy, United Kingdom and the European Union. 

These countries play a significant role in international economic cooperation and hold the power to shape and impact global economic issues. These member countries make up about 85% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and more than 75% of global trade. 

The aim of G20 is to promote friendly relations between member nations to stabilize the global economy, to minimize the risk of financial crisis in the future. The G20 works towards creating a new global financial structure. The G20 theme for this year is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”,  which is a Sanskrit text taken from the Maha Upanishad, meaning “One Earth, One Family, One Future”.
