Organised annually in India, the Durand Cup is a national football tournament that was established in 1888 by Sir Henry Mortimer Durand. It is the oldest national football competition in Asia. Globally, it is the 5th oldest football tournament. 

The Durand Cup 2023 began on August 3 and ended on September 3. This was the 132nd edition of the tournament. There were 24 competing teams which were divided into 6 groups comprising 4 teams each. The grouping was as follows:

  • Group A: Punjab FC, Mohun Bagan SG, East Bengal, Bangladesh Army
  • Group B: Mumbai City FC, Mohammedan SC, Jamshedpur FC, Indian Navy
  • Group C: Kerala Blasters, Indian Air Force FT, Gokulam Kerala FC, Bengaluru FC
  • Group D: Shillong Lajong, NorthEast United FC, FC Goa, Downtown Heroes FC
  • Group E: Tribhuwan Army, Hyderabad FC, Delhi FC, Chennaiyin FC
  • Group F: Rajasthan United FC, Odisha FC, Indian Army FC, Bodoland FC

The Durand Cup 2023 was played in two stages called the group stage and knockouts. All 42 matches of the tournament were played in Kokrajhar, Kolkata and Guwahati. East Bengal and Mohun Bagan qualified for the finals, which were held on September 3, 2023, at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Mohun Bagan SG won the final match of the Durand Cup 2023 with a narrow 1-0 victory. With this win, Mohun Bagan SG now has 17 Durand Cup titles under its name. 

The Golden Glove Award was given to Vishal Kaith from Mohun Bagan SG. David Lalhlansanga from Mohammedan FC won the Golden Boot Award and Nandhakumar Sekar of East Bengal FC received the Golden Ball Award.
