FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023

Ever since its establishment in 1991, the FIFA Women’s World Cup has been played every four years. The inaugural ceremony of the FIFA Women’s World Cup was held in China. During the initial years of its establishment, the FIFA Women’s World Cup was called FIFA Women’s World Championships. 

As per the rules of the  FIFA Women’s World Cup, a total of 32 teams compete to reach the finals. Every team competes to be placed in the 31 slots in the qualification stage that happens 3 years before the World Cup. The host nation team is automatically allotted the 32nd slot. 

Eight FIFA Women’s World Cup matches have been held so far. To date, only four teams have won the title. The United States has won the title four times, followed by Germany with two winning titles. Japan and Norway have won once each. The last two FIFA Women’s World Cups in 2019 and 2015 were won by the United States.

This year, we are witnessing the 9th edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The championship started on July 20 and will end on August 20. In a first, this year, Australia and New Zealand are jointly hosting the World Cup. The opening match was played on July 20 at Eden Park in New Zealand between the host nation and Norway. The host team emerged victorious in the match. 

The final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will take place on August 20, 2023, at Sydney Olympic Stadium in Australia.
