Five New Sports added to the 2028 Summer Olympics

The 2028 Summer Olympics will take place in Los Angeles, USA in the month of July. The International Olympic Committee announced that five new sports- baseball, cricket, flag football, lacrosse and squash will be added to the program.

Flag football and squash will be played for the first time in the history of the Olympics. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Baseball and Softball were added. Cricket was only included in the Paris Olympics in 1900, where the British team defeated the French team. Lacrosse was played in St Louis, in 1904 and in London, in 1908.

According to the committee members, these five games are added to represent the American sports culture to the world. While the introduction of new sports will let more athletes take part in the game and showcase their skills, it will also bring more viewership from countries where these sports are already a part of their culture. Before the 2028 Los Angeles games, the next Olympics is going to take place in Paris in 2024.
