G20 Summit Comes to an End

The 18th G20 Summit was held in Delhi on September 9 and 10. The venue of the Summit was the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition- Convention Centre (IECC) in Delhi. This was the last G20 (Group of Twenty) summit of the year. Leaders from all the 20 member nations participated in the G20 summit. The meeting was chaired by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Delhi took every possible measure to ensure that the venue was clean and secure before the event. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) was able to achieve a remarkable milestone in keeping the Air Quality Index (AQI) below 100 during the days of the event. Out of 20 monitored locations, 17 locations had AQI levels below 100. Around 1,000 sanitation workers worked in shifts to clean the roads and market areas.

At the end of the G20 summit, the New Delhi Leaders Declaration was adopted by all the 20 members of the G20. The declaration contains the duties of the countries towards a better economic future. Some of the aims mentioned in the declaration are easy accessibility to healthcare and supplies and reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

A new organization called the Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA) was launched at the G20 summit. The aim of the organization is to encourage the growth and use of sustainable biofuels.

The 18th G20 Summit concluded with the African Union becoming a permanent member of the G20.
