Gandhi Jayanti 2023

Gandhi Jayanti 2023

Every year on October 2, we celebrate Gandhi Jayanti to honour Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday. He was an important leader in India who helped our country become free from British rule.

Gandhiji, fondly called “Bapu,” was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat. He was a lawyer and lived in South Africa for many years. When he came back to India at the age of 45, he started to stand up for the rights of Indian farmers, workers, and regular people. He even led the Indian National Congress in 1921.

Gandhiji wanted to help people and make our country better. He worked to end poverty, help women, and stop the unfair treatment of some people. He encouraged Indians to make their own clothes using a simple spinning tool called a charkha.

He did so much for our nation that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose called him the ‘Father of The Nation.’

On Gandhi Jayanti, people all over India remember and celebrate him. It’s a National Holiday, and many schools and colleges have special ceremonies to honour Gandhiji. We have prayer services and remember him at his memorial in New Delhi, called Raj Ghat.
