Gita Press to be Awarded Gandhi Peace Prize 2021

The Gandhi Peace Prize is awarded annually to anyone who helps to promote social awareness or transformation through Gandhian ways like non-violence and more. This award can be conferred to anyone irrespective of nationality caste, creed and gender. The Gandhi Peace Prize was established in 1995 by the Government of India to honour the 125th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The award consists of prize money of 1 crore and a traditional handmade item among other things.

The Gandhi Peace Prize 2021 is to be conferred to Gita Press, Gorakhpur, for working towards uplifting society through non-violent and other Gandhian methods. Gita Press was established in 1923 and is the world’s biggest publisher of religious books, such as the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and Ramayan. They have published more than 417 million copies of the Bhagavad Gita in 14 languages. The main aim of the publishing house is to impart the wisdom contained in ancient Hindu texts to the general public. To make the event grander, this year, Gita Press completed 100 years of its establishment. 

Other institutions which have received this recognition include the Ramakrishna Mission and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
