Guru Nanak Jayanti

Guru Nanak Jayanti

The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev is celebrated every year as Guru Nanak Jayanti. Also known as Gurupurab, this day is celebrated on a full moon day in November. In 2023, we are celebrating it today on 27th November.

Guru Nanak Dev founded Sikhism and was the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. He was born in 1469 in the village of Rai Bhoi di Talwandi, now known as Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. He travelled across Asia to teach people about being kind and helpful to others.

This year is the 554th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Ji. People all over the world, especially in the Sikh community, celebrate this day. They go to Gurudwaras, the place where Sikhs go to offer their prayers. Also, songs from the holy book of the Sik religion, Guru Granth Sahib are sung.

On the happy occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished everyone on the social media platform X. This day has been announced as a national bank holiday in India.

Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated by people with love and excitement. Many come together to share Guru Nanak Ji’s teachings about being fair and treating everyone equally. Some also participate in Langar seva, where free meals are provided to promote equality.
