Guru Nanak Jayanti
The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev is celebrated every year as Guru Nanak Jayanti. Also known as Gurupurab, this day is celebrated on the full moon day of Kartik month of the Hindu calendar. In 2023, we are celebrating it today, on 27th November.
Guru Nanak Dev founded Sikhism and was the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. He was born in 1469 in the village of Rai Bhoi di Talwandi, now known as Nankana Sahib, near Lahore, Pakistan. He travelled across Asia to teach people about selfless service towards humanity.
This year marks the 554th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Ji. This day is celebrated worldwide by the members of the Sikh Community and others. People go to Gurudwaras to offer their prayers to Guru Nanak Ji. Also, Hymns from the holy book of the Sikh religion, Guru Granth Sahib are sung.
On the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished everyone on the social media platform X. This day has been announced as a national bank holiday in India.
Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated with love and enthusiasm as hundreds of people gather to spread the teachings of Guru Nanak Ji about tolerance and equality. Devotees take part in Langar seva where free meals are provided to promote equality.
