How Did April Fools’ Day Start

April Fools’ Day is celebrated in many countries in the world. On this day, people joke with others and call them “April Fools.” 

There are many stories about how April Fools’ Day started. A famous story comes from France. Before 1564, the French government would follow the Gregorian Calendar in which the new year was celebrated around April 1st. In 1564, the French government decided to follow  a new calendar called the Julian calendar. In this calendar, the new year was celebrated on January 1st. But many people still followed the old calendar and celebrated the new year around April 1st, during easter. These people were called “April Fools.”
