 India beat Japan to claim the Asian Champion Trophy 2023

The Indian women’s hockey team defeated Japan in the finals to win the Asian Champions trophy. The match took place in the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh AstroTurf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi on 5th November 2023. 

India won with a score of 4-0. Players Sangita Kumari, Neha Goyal, Lalremsiami Hmarzote and Vandana Katariya were the ones to score the points. The captain of the Indian team, Savita Punia, did an amazing job as a goalkeeper by stopping Japan from scoring. She also saved a penalty stroke in the final quarter. 

This is the second win for the Indian women’s hockey team in the Asian Championship. Their first win was in 2016 in Singapore. The team was mentored under head coach Janneke Schopman. Earlier under her coaching, the team secured the FIH Nations Cup in Valencia in December 2022. 

The final match between India and Japan received a lot of attention from sports lovers as thousands of people showed up at the stadium to watch the match. The excellent performance showed the level of commitment and hard work done by the Indian women’s hockey team.
