India Celebrates World Environment Day

On June 5, every country around the globe celebrated World Environment Day, including India. Different parts of India witnessed colorful, innovative and expressive forms of honoring the day, such as sapling planting and rallies.

Planting saplings is a common way of celebrating World Environment Day. This year, many states participated in this activity to build a sustainable future. Several students in Assam planted tree saplings at the Assam State Zoo to mark World Environment Day.

A total of 1000 saplings were planted across the state of Jharkhand by the Jharkhand Energy Department. By the end of this year, the Department hopes to plant more than 50,000 saplings.

Many schools and colleges across several districts of Karnataka participated in rallies and planted saplings in the premises of their educational institutes. Many local residents participated in the activity by planting saplings along the roadside and playgrounds.

Many states of India witnessed World Environment Day rallies. In Bhopal, the Sudarshan Chakra Corps organized a cycle rally spanning a distance of 30 kilometers to spread awareness about daily sustainable practices. A similar cycle rally was held by BSF personnel in Amritsar. An awareness rally was organized in Calcutta by performers in Calcutta to celebrate World Environment Day.
