India-USA Space Mission

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the USA are collaborating to launch a space mission together. Chairman of ISRO, S Somanath, announced that four Indian astronauts will receive training for the upcoming mission. The Administrator of NASA, Bill Nelson, announced that the launch will take place in 2024.

Out of the four astronauts, the final candidate will receive training from NASA. He will be taken to the International Space Station towards the end of 2024, where he will get to research for 10 to 14 days.

The mission is named ‘NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar’ or ‘NISAR’ for short. Its main aim is to learn about Earth and find ways to protect it. “It will study and measure Earth’s changing ecosystems and support a host of other applications,” added Bill Nelson. This mission will provide the necessary information for scientists to understand global warming in a better way.

Speaking about India’s achievements in the field of space exploration, Nelson praised India for the successful launch of Chandrayaan-3. He said the USA decided to team up with India in the space sector a decade ago as the US Government was aware of India’s capabilities in scientific areas. He also mentioned that the bond between the two countries is stronger than ever, especially in the field of Science.
