India Wins the Asia Cup 2023

The Asia Cup or the ACC Men’s Asia Cup is a cricket championship between Asian countries. It was established in 1983 alongside the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). It is played in one of two formats: One Day International having 20 overs or Twenty20 International cricket format with 20 overs.

This year, we witnessed the 16th edition of the Super 11 Asia Cup. The matches were played in the One Day Internationals format. Pakistan and Sri Lanka hosted the tournament between 30 August to 17 September 2023. This was the first time that two countries simultaneously hosted the championship. The reason behind this was the Indian government’s disapproval of playing matches in Pakistan. There were six teams participating in the championship, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, as well as Nepal. Nepal qualified by winning the 2023 ACC Men’s Premier Cup. While all the teams played a few matches in Pakistan, India did not. A total of 4 matches were played in Pakistan while Sri Lanka hosted 9.

The championship was initially scheduled for 2021 but was postponed to 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the final match, India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets and became the champions of the Asia Cup 2023. This was India’s eighth Asia Cup title. The highest run score was made by Indian player Shubman Gill. Mohammed Siraj took a total of 10 wickets, becoming the second-highest wicket-taker.
