India created history yesterday by winning the Badminton Asia Team Championship for the first time. The championship took place in Malaysia, where outstanding performances by the women Indian badminton players such as PV Sindhu and Anmol Kharb led to this victory.

The final match took place on 18th February, where India defeated Thailand with a score of 3-2. One of the rising sporting stars of India, PV Sindhu, returned to the field after recovering from injuries. In the first match, Sindhu defeated Supaninda Katethong, earning one point for India. Gayatri Gopichand and Treesha Jolly won the second round; however, the opposite team won the next two rounds. The 16-year-old Anmol Kharb won the fifth match, making India the champions of the tournament.

PM Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian women’s badminton team on social media platform X. A part of his tweet said, “The way our women athletes have been excelling in various sports is phenomenal.”

This is a huge achievement for India as it is the first time that India won this continental championship. Chief coach Pullela Gopichand described the victory as one of the happiest moments of his life.
