Indian Artists Win Grammy Awards

On February 4th, the 66th Grammy Awards were held in Los Angeles, USA. The talented Indian musicians, Shankar Mahadevan and Tabla player Zakir Hussain made India proud by winning the Grammy in the Best Global Music Album category. They are part of a fusion band called Shakti which released the Grammy-winning album named “This Moment,” last June. This album was the band’s first new one in more than 45 years. The band Shakti includes John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan, V. Selvaganesh, and Ganesh Rajagopalan.

Zakir Hussain also won another Grammy for Best Global Music Performance for the song “Pashto,” where he worked with Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Rakesh Chaurasia. Chaurasia, a great flute player, won two Grammy awards for his album “As We Speak.” It was a big night for these musical legends from India.
