Indian Coast Guard Day 2024

Indian Coast Guard Day 2024

Every year on February 1, Indian Coast Guard Day is observed in India. This day honours the contribution made by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) to our nation’s safety. The Coast Guard is a part of the military which is in charge of guarding the country’s coast and stopping illegal activities in the sea.

The Indian Coast Guard was established on February 1, 1977, to stop the illegal smuggling taking place on the coast that was harming the economy of the country. On August 18, 1987, the Indian government declared February 1st the Indian Coast Guard Day. This year, the Indian Coast Guard is celebrating its 48th year of establishment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media site X to wish the Indian Coast Guard well. He defined the Coast Guard as “… an outstanding team of professionals, who steadfastly secure our coasts…”

According to present data, the Indian Coast Guard is the fourth-largest coast guard in the world. This day is celebrated with a parade, various sporting events, cultural performances, and community service projects.
