Every year on February 1, Indian Coast Guard Day is observed in India to honour the contribution made by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) to our nation’s security. The Coast Guard is a part of the military which is in charge of guarding the country’s coast and stopping illegal activities in the sea. They are in charge of stopping illegal smuggling and trade.  

The Indian Coast Guard was established on February 1, 1977, to stop the illegal smuggling taking place on the coast that was harming the economy of the country. On August 18, 1987, the Indian government declared February 1st the Indian Coast Guard Day. This year, the Indian Coast Guard is celebrating its 48th year of establishment. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media site X to wish the Indian Coast Guard well. The tweet read: 

“Best wishes to the Indian Coast Guard family on their Raising Day. An organisation of great strategic importance, our Coast Guard is an outstanding team of professionals, who steadfastly secure our coasts and also are at the forefront of humanitarian efforts.” 

According to present data, the Indian Coast Guard is the fourth-largest coast guard in the world. This day is celebrated with a parade, various sporting events, cultural performances, and community service projects.
