Indian Women’s Cricket Team Secures First Test Win Against the Australian Team

In a historic win, the Indian women’s cricket team secured its first-ever Test match victory over Australia by defeating them by eight wickets. The match took place at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 24th December 2023. It was the final day of the one-off Test in the multi-format series. 

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur led the Indian team. Indian bowlers gave a remarkable bowling performance as they bowled out Australia for 261 in their second innings. Sneh Rana and Rajeshwari Gayakwad claimed the last five wickets for 28 runs on the Wankhede pitch. Sneh Rana was declared as the woman of the match. 

Indian player Shafali Verma chose to bat first against Australia but was bowled out within the first over. However, Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh came to the rescue with their spectacular performances. Mandhana scored back-to-back fours, and Ghosh scored more than half a century. 

Mandhana and Ghosh’s unbeaten partnership secured India’s historic win, marking a significant achievement for the team. The victory was particularly iconic as it was India’s first triumph over Australia in 11 Tests, making it a momentous occasion for women’s cricket in the country.
