International Anti-Corruption Day 2023

International Anti-Corruption Day 2023

On 9th December every year, we celebrate Anti-Corruption Day around the world. Corruption is a very serious problem that is faced by almost every country in the world. The law of every country ensures that every single citizen has access to the proper resources needed for their survival. However, many people bend the laws to help their own needs resulting in a country full of crime and increased poverty rate. International Corruption Day is celebrated every year to fight against the evil of corruption and make every country corruption-free.

In 2003, all the member states of The United Nations signed a treaty to fight against corruption. The treaty came to be known as the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). It was signed on 9th December and came into effect on 14th December. The authorities announced 9th December as International Anti-Corruption Day to raise awareness against corruption. In 2005, this day was celebrated for the first time.

The theme of the 2023 Anti-Corruption Day is “UNCAC at 20: Uniting the World Against Corruption.” This year marks the 20th year that the treaty was first signed. This day highlights the connection between anti-corruption and peace, security, and development. People from every sector are encouraged to come together to fight the evils of corruption.
