International Booker Prize Winner 2023

The International Booker Prize is a literary prize which is awarded annually to the best novel of the year. The award is presented to the best work of fiction, which is decided by the panel of judges. This year the shortlisted titles for the Booker Prize 2023 included 6 books. The book titles are as follows:

  • Boulder by Eva Baltasar 
  • Whale by Cheon Myeong-kwan
  • The Gospel According to the New World by Maryse Condé
  • Standing Heavy by GauZ’
  • Time Shelter by Georgi Gospodinov 
  • Still Born by Guadalupe Nettel 

The shortlisted titles were announced in April 2023. On May 23rd, at Sky Garden in London, the winner of the International Booker Prize 2023 was announced and the award was presented to Georgi Gospodinov for his book Time Shelter, which was translated by Angela Rodel. 

The novel talks about the power of memories and how they shape a person’s identity and control their intimate narrative. The novel gives its readers an insight into the conflicts between the West and the communist world in countries like Bulgaria. Needless to say, the plot is set against the backdrop of Europe.
