International Day of Forests 2024

International Day of Forests 2024

Every year on March 21st, people worldwide celebrate the International Day of Forests. This day aims to raise awareness about the importance of every type of forest and tree in our lives.

The International Day of Forests was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 to promote the importance of forests and their conservation. Forests play a crucial role in providing us with clean air, freshwater, and a habitat for wildlife. They also fight against climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

This year, the theme of this day is “Forest and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World.” A huge forest area is lost yearly due to deforestation, forest fire and climate change. This theme highlights the need for innovative techniques to help us rebuild the world’s forests to ensure a healthier and greener Earth.

On this day, various activities and events are organised worldwide to celebrate and highlight the significance of forests. These activities may include tree planting campaigns, educational programs about the importance of forests, and community events to raise awareness about forest conservation. People also take part in nature walks and hikes to appreciate the beauty of forests firsthand.
