International Day of Happiness

International Day of Happiness

Every year on 20th March, we celebrate International Day of Happiness around the world. This day shows us the importance of being happy. On 28th June 2012, the United Nations (UN) declared 20th March the International Day of Happiness. Since 2013, this day has been celebrated to remind everyone of the need to stay happy and healthy.

It was the country of Bhutan that came up with the idea of measuring the happiness of its citizens. In Bhutan, if people were happy, then the country was believed to be growing. Bhutan also gave the idea to celebrate the International Day of Happiness.

The theme for this year is ‘Reconnecting for Happiness: Building Resilient Communities’. This day is celebrated around the world by organising various events that aim to promote happiness and positive mental health.
