International Day of Women and Girls in Science

International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Every year on February 11th, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated around the world. This day honours the achievements of females in the field of science. This day also aims to make sure that everyone, regardless of gender, has an equal opportunity to engage in and contribute to science.

It is important to involve women and girls in the field of science. However, women in science often face many problems. Globally, only one-third of scientists are women. They are paid less than the men in this field. Also, men are more likely to reach higher job positions in this field than women.

The United Nations announced February 11th as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in 2015. This year, an event is taking place in New York. In this event, female scientists will come together to discuss the importance of women and girls taking part in science.
