International Family Day

International Family Day

International Family Day is celebrated on May 15 every year to highlight the importance of the bonds shared by families all around the world. On this day, we remind ourselves of the significance of having loved ones around us. This day also serves as a reminder that every family is unique and can come in different sizes, shapes and colours.

The first International Family Day was celebrated in 1993 by the United Nations. The purpose behind this was to spread awareness of the significance of families and their role in building a society. Every year, the United Nations comes up with a theme for International Family Day. The theme for last year was ‘Families and Urbanisation’. This year, the UN has decided on ‘Demographic Trends and Families’ as the theme for this year’s International Family Day.

This day is celebrated in many different ways by people all across the world. Some people celebrate this day by paying a visit to their families, while others spend quality time with them, play games or go on a family picnic.
