International Zebra Day 2024

International Zebra Day 2024

Every year on January 31st, International Zebra Day is celebrated around the world. This day aims to celebrate this majestic animal and raise awareness about its conservation. Zebras are primarily found in Eastern and Southern Africa. With the increase of human development in those regions, the lives of Zebras are in danger.

There are three types of zebras- Grevy’s Zebra, Mountain Zebra and Plains Zebra. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Grevy’s Zebras are considered endangered. There are less than 2000 adult Grevy’s zebras in the wild leading to them being marked as endangered.

International Zebra Day aims to raise awareness about the declining population of zebras and promote ways to protect them from further decline. This day is believed to have been created by a group of organisations trying to preserve zebra habitat.
