ISRO’S Aditya-L1 Successfully Reaches the Lagrange-1 Point

ISRO’S Aditya-L1 Successfully Reaches the Lagrange-1 Point

The first solar mission of India, Aditya-L1, has successfully reached its destined spot- Lagrange 1 Point. Launched on September 2, 2023, the spacecraft took 127 days to get there, reaching its destination on January 6, 2024. Created and launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Aditya-L1’s purpose is to study the outer layers of the sun.

Lagrange points are places in outer space between two large celestial bodies where a smaller object can remain stable. Lagrange-1, where Aditya-L1 is now positioned, is located between the Earth and the Sun, approximately 1.5 million km away from Earth. This point is only about 1% of the Earth-sun distance, which is 147.11 million km. Aditya-L1 has been strategically placed there to observe the sun continuously and study its activities.

According to ISRO officials, being at Lagrange-1 allows the spacecraft to observe the Sun without obstructions like eclipses while using minimal fuel.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to the social media platform named X to announce this tremendous achievement made by the visionaries of IRSO. He wrote about India’s plan to achieve more of such feats.
