King Charles Crowned at the Coronation Ceremony

The Crowning ceremony or the Coronation ceremony of Charles and Camilla was held on May 6, 2023 at Westminster Abbey. This was the first coronation ceremony after 70 years since that of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The Coronation service of King Charles III was attended by around 2,300 people including celebrities, royal members and political leaders. The event was watched on TV by an average of 18.8 million people all around the world. The theme for the Coronation was the significance of service.

King Charles and Camilla traveled from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey in a procession, in a horse-drawn carriage. There were large crowds of people who had gathered to watch the Royal family. The crowd also had armed forces.

The Coronation ceremony went on for two hours, during which many religious and traditional practices were performed. Holy oil was applied to Charles by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Charles also received the coronation regalia. Coronation regalia are the objects that are given to the new King during his coronation. These objects symbolize the power and responsibilities of the king. The Coronation regalia included such as the Imperial State Crown and the Coronation Spoon. Following this, the Church of England and the British royal family declared their loyalty towards him. The crowning of Queen consort  Camilla was much simpler and shorter.

After the service, the British royal family traveled back to Buckingham Palace in a procession and were seen waving at the huge crowd from the rear and front balconies.
