King Charles Crowned at the Coronation Ceremony

King Charles Crowned at the Coronation Ceremony

Every time Britain appoints a new king, they hold a ceremony. This is called the Coronation ceremony. This year on May 6, 2023, we witnessed the Coronation ceremony of King Charles and Queen Camilla. This was the first coronation ceremony after 70 years.

The Coronation service of King Charles III was held at Westminster Abbey. It was attended by thousands of people and watched on TV by millions. There were large crowds of people who had gathered to watch the Royal family. The crowd also had armed forces.

The Coronation ceremony went on for two hours. Many religious and traditional practices were performed. Holy oil was applied to Charles and he received the coronation regalia. Coronation regalia are the objects that are given to the new King during his coronation. These objects symbolize the power and responsibilities of the king. After this, the Church of England and the British royal family declared their loyalty towards him. The crowning of Queen consort  Camilla was much simpler and shorter.

After the service, the British royal family traveled back to Buckingham Palace in a procession and were seen waving at the huge crowd from the rear and front balconies.
