King Charles Crowned at the Coronation Ceremony

Charles and Camilla were crowned as King and Queen on May 6, 2023 at Westminster Abbey. This was the first coronation ceremony after 70 years since that of the late Queen Elizabeth II.The Coronation service of King Charles III was attended by around 2,300 people including celebrities, royal members and political leaders. The event was watched on TV by an average of 18.8 million people all around the world. The main theme for the Coronation was the significance of service.

The ceremony began with Charles and Camilla traveling from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey in a procession, in a horse-drawn carriage, moving past heavily cheering crowds and armed forces. During the two hour ceremony, Charles was anointed with holy oil by the Archbishop of Canterbury. He received the Coronation regalia, which are the objects that symbolize the power, responsibilities of the king, such as the Sovereign’s Orb, Sovereign’s Sceptre with Cross, the Imperial State Crown and the Coronation Spoon. The Church of England and the British royal family declared their allegiance towards him. The crowning of Camilla was fairly simple and shorter.

After the service, the British royal family traveled back to Buckingham Palace in a procession and were seen waving at the huge crowd from the rear and front balconies.
