Kisan Diwas 2023

Kisan Diwas 2023

On December 23rd every year, we celebrate Kisan Diwas in India to pay tribute to the hard-working farmers of our country. This day, also known as National Farmer’s Day, commemorates the birth anniversary of the fifth Prime Minister of India, Chaudhury Charan Singh.

On 23 December 1902, Chaudhury Charan Singh was born in Uttar Pradesh. As the Prime Minister of India from 1979 to 1980, Chaudhury Charan Singh took many initiatives to improve the lives of farmers across the country. He launched various welfare programmes to ensure the rights of the farmers. He was against the exploitative natures of the Zamindars and wrote books to raise awareness about farmer’s cause.

In 2001, the Government of India declared 23rd December as the National Farmer’s Day to acknowledge all the work done by Chaudhury Charan Singh. This year, the theme of the day is ‘Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience’.

Kisan Diwas is an important day in India that signifies a collective expression of gratitude towards farmers in India. Farmers are the backbone of our country, and this day provides a platform for them to voice their needs. Several campaigns are organised on this day to highlight the contributions made by farmers to India’s growth.
