Koneru Humpy Wins Silver Medal

On 28th December 2023, chess champion Koneru Humpy made India proud by securing the women’s individual silver medal in the World Rapid Chess Championship 2023. The championship took place from 26th to 28th December in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Koneru Humpy is a celebrated Indian professional chess player. In 2002, She became the youngest woman to win the title of Grandmaster at the age of fifteen.

In this year’s championship, Humpy played brilliantly and even defeated Russian chess player Kateryna Lagno. She ended up tying with another Russian chess player named Anastasia Bodnaruk. However, despite her best efforts, Humpy couldn’t win the tie-breaker. So, Anastasia Bodnaruk was crowned the champion of the 2023 Championship.

This is the third time that Humpy has won a medal in the World Rapid Chess championship. She had previously won a bronze medal in 2012 in Moscow, Russia, and was crowned the world champion in 2019 at Batumi, Georgia.
