Leap Day 2024

Every four years, our calendar presents us with an extra day, known as Leap Day. it is the 29th day of February! 

Why do you get this extra special day? Well, you know that the Earth revolves around the sun, right? When the Earth makes one complete circle around the Sun, we call it a year. A year has 365 days in it, however, our Earth takes 365 days and 6 hours to circle the sun. So, the remaining six hours are added and after every four years, we get an extra day! 

The year with a Leap day is called a Leap year and it has 366 days. 

This is a special day where many people celebrate it in different ways. People born on Leap days are called Leaplings. The last Leap Day occurred in 2020, and the next will arrive in 2028.
