Mumbai Wins Ranji Trophy After Eight Years

On 14th March 2024, Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy after defeating the Vidarbha team with 169 runs. The final match occurred in the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where the Mumbai team led by captain Ajinkya Rahane, secured their 42nd Ranji Trophy. 

The Ranji Trophy is an esteemed domestic championship organised annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Teams from states and regions of India take part in this championship. It was started in 1935, and to date, Mumbai has won the title 42 times. The Vidarbha team, representing the Vidarbha locality of Maharashtra, has won the Ranji Trophy two times. 

In the final match, Mumbai scored 538 runs while batting first. The Vidarbha team was bowled out with a run of 358. Mumbai was able to secure the Ranji Trophy after a break of eight years. 

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) decided to double the prize money after this magnificent win of Mumbai. With the winning money of Rs 5 crores from the BCCI, MCA has also decided to award the team Rs 5 crores.
